Classroom Observation & Consultation

A mentor/EMI expert watches the applicant's microteaching video (15 minutes) and provides feedback. The procedures are as follows:

1. Materials Preparation:
   ● Lesson plan: Fill out "Lesson Plan for EMI Microteaching and Classroom Observation" using the template provided by the center. Accepted file formats: DOC, DOCX, or PDF.
   ● Demonstration video: Record a 15-minute demonstration video, which can be a segment from a self-recorded asynchronous course or a physical EMI course. Accepted file formats: MP4 or MOV. File size limit: 10 GB.

2. Online Application: Applicant fills out the application form and uploads the lesson plan and demonstration video.

3. Expert Review: Center invites a mentor/EMI expert to watch the demonstration video and complete the NSYSU EMI Classroom Observation Form.
   Feedback: Applicant fills out and returns the feedback form to the Center after receiving mentor/expert feedback.

4. Record Entry: Once completed, "microteaching" record will be uploaded to our platform as proof of completing this requirement in the EMI Professional Development Program

A mentor, expert, or pilot teacher (hereafter "observer") observes the applicant's 50-minute EMI course and provides feedback. The procedures are as follows:

1. Online Application: Applicant fills out the application form with class schedule.
   Preparation:
   • Center matches the applicant with an observer and, if needed, an additional Fulbright Advisor. Applicant submits the lesson plan to the Center one week prior.
   • Center provides the NSYSU EMI Classroom Observation Form to both parties.

2. To be Observed: Observer conducts a 50-minute observation of the applicant's class.

3. Discussion: Applicant and observer discuss within one week post-observation.

4. Feedback: Observer completes the observation form. After receiving it, the applicant fills out and returns the feedback form to the Center.

5. Record Entry: Once completed, "To be Observed" record will be uploaded to our platform as proof of completing this requirement in the EMI Professional Development Program

An applicant observes a peer's class (50 minutes/1 period/in-person) and provides feedback. The procedures are as follows:

1. Threshold: Applicant must complete at least 4 hours of observation-related PD workshops and the "To be Observed" component.

2. Online Application: Applicant fills out the application form to request an observation and provide availability for the current semester.

3. To Observe: Center assists in matching. The applicant conducts an observation of a peer's class (50 minutes/1 period) and completes the NSYSU EMI Classroom Observation Form.

4. Discussion: Applicant and the peer teacher hold a discussion within 1 week after the observation.

5. Expert Feedback: Center invites a mentor/expert to refine the observation form. The applicant then revises and provides the finalized form to the peer.

6. Record Entry: Once completed, "To Observe" record will be uploaded to our platform as proof of completing this requirement in the EMI Professional Development Program

A teaching consultation service is provided by an EMI expert/mentor to the applicant teacher. Consultation may be conducted individually or in groups. The procedures are as follows:

1. Online Application: Applicant teacher completes the online application form and selects their preferred EMI expert or mentor.
2. Consultation: The Center matches the applicant with an EMI expert/mentor and arranges for an in-person or online consultation.
3. Feedback: After the consultation, the EMI expert/mentor completes a record form, and the applicant teacher submits the feedback form to the Center.
